Jesse Kincaid
At age 19 Kincaid packed his 2 guitars into his 1953 Pontiac and pointed it east toward New York City on Route 66. He detoured to Cambridge, Massachusetts where he performed solo in folk music venues. At Club 47 Kincaid met aspiring folksinger Taj Mahal. The two toured the east coast and ultimately drove cross country to Los Angeles where they were joined by Kincaid’s acquaintance Ry Cooder forming The Rising Sons. The band was signed to Columbia Records.
Brief Moments Full Measure (Apple Music) contains a baker’s dozen songs composed by Kincaid that range from the folky, funky Little Rain, with Taj Mahal on banjo and harmonica, to Black Crow, a country blues with Maria Muldaur singing and Taj Mahal on banjo, to a touchingly sentimental My Family, again with Muldaur on harmony.
Don Henley, of The Eagles, recorded Kincaid’s song, She Sang Hymns Out Of Tune on his album, Cass County.
Jesse Lee Kincaid and his band play regular gigs in Marin County, performing crowd pleasers with improvised jam sections and Kincaid-penned songs.
It took a long time but it’s the real thing.
