*Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Willie Brown’s brave and groundbreaking legislation to decriminalize homosexuality in California. A hero for gay rights.
As state Assemblyman in 1975, Brown authored AB-479, California’s “consenting adult sex law.” He worked furiously with state Senate leader George Moscone and Gov Jerry Brown to counter immense opposition to the bill which won narrowly by just one vote on the Senate floor. The “consenting adult law” was then signed into law by Gov. Brown, taking effect in 1976.
