Intro to DJing at Music City Accelerator is where you learn how to move a room. This hands-on DJ class in San Francisco teaches you how to build playlists, blend songs smoothly, and control the energy of a set using professional DJ gear inside the Music City Starfactory campus.
Whether you’re brand-new to DJing or you’ve been experimenting at home, this program helps you understand the tools, techniques, and musical decisions that go into a great mix, in a supportive, creative learning environment.
This DJ class is designed to give you a strong foundation in the essentials of modern DJ performance. By the end of the program, you’ll have practical experience with:
Track selection and playlist building for different settings
Beatmatching and tempo control by ear and with digital tools
Smooth transitions using EQ, faders and filters
Basic cueing, looping, and phrasing
Reading the room and shaping the flow of a set
You’ll also explore how to organize your library so you can find the right track at the right time, whether you’re playing in a club, at a private event, or online.
Classes take place in the Music City DJ lab on the Music City Starfactory campus. You work directly on club-style decks and mixers, learning how to handle gear that reflects what you’ll see in real-world DJ booths and performance spaces.
The DJ lab environment gives you:
Individual hands-on time on the decks
Guided demonstrations from your instructor
Practice time to repeat techniques until they feel natural
Opportunities to record practice sets for review and self-assessment
The goal is to make the equipment feel familiar, so you can focus on the music instead of worrying about the technology in front of you.
Intro to DJing is a great fit if you:
Want to learn how to DJ from the ground up
Already mix at home and want structured guidance and feedback
Produce your own tracks and want to perform them as a DJ
Play an instrument or sing and want to add DJ skills to your creative toolkit
No prior DJ experience is required. If you love music and are ready to practice consistently, this class gives you a clear path to building confident mixes.
Music City Accelerator is part of the larger Music City Starfactory ecosystem, a multi-stage creative campus in the heart of San Francisco. As a student, you learn DJ skills in a space surrounded by rehearsal rooms, studios, live stages and broadcasting operations.
