After a yearlong lesson in neighborhood politics, Nob Hill's Mick Jagger impersonator, Rudy Colombini, is finally ready to rock and roll.
On Thursday, the Planning Commission unanimously approved Colombini's plan to build a rock ‘n' roll Mecca at 1355 Bush St., which will include a live music café, recording studio, rehearsal space and the San Francisco Bay Area Rock Hall of Fame.
The vote came a year after the commission had unanimously rejected Colombini's project, which was then scaled back and redesigned using better soundproofing.
"It was like a Hollywood movie, like Rocky — the underdog comes back," Colombini said. "I am on cloud nine."
Colombini, who is heading off to Italy for a vacation, said construction would start as soon as he gets back and would take six months. He called the vote a victory for rock musicians in The City.
"It was discrimination against musicians. Nobody wants to live next to musicians," he said.
The project includes 18 practice spaces for bands and 38 studio apartments for musicians to live in.
